The Duck Pond
Wonderful Service at the Duck Pond

The Duck Pond is best described as a quaint country–style restaurant set in a distinctly quiet and rural atmosphere. Warmth, service, hospitality and friendliness are the cornerstones of The Duck Pond’s customer ethos and represent a welcome break from the consumerist mindset we all too often fall into. The Capey Magazine recently enjoyed a staff breakfast at The Duck Pond and will most certainly recommend that our readers pay them a visit. Ronel van der Walt has owned The Duck Pond since 2001 and having managed the restaurant previously since 1999, is wellpositioned to provide her customers with the excellence her and her staff so ably deliver. Ronel’s sister, Charlene, is the assistant manageress and the experience gained by both sisters in the hospitality trade is used to provide The Duck Pond with its unique character. The restaurant can

accommodate up to 50 patrons inside and a further 60 can be catered for on the spreading lawn outside, which is also used for bigger groups and functions. A footbridge reaches out into a self–contained paved island in the middle of the pond and the island is used to host up to 80 people for barbecues and private functions. Country style food is on The Duck Pond’s menu and concentrates on a healthier and lighter approach to your culinary experience. Ingredients are always fresh and are sourced directly from the surrounding area.

The Duck Pond is known for its tranquil setting and guests are often entertained by the host of resident ducks that make the pond home. The restaurant is fully licensed and promotes Welmoed Wines at affordable prices and is found inside the Wine Tasting building at Welmoed Winery (“company of wine people”). Situated on the R310 (Baden–Powell or Spier Road) The Duck Pond is within easy reach, being 40 km from Cape Town and 10 km from both Stellenbosch and Somerset–West. We can certainly recommend The Duck Pond as a breakfast (appointment only) or lunch venue and larger groups can be accommodated.
